Main Purpose
The LHV is responsible for providing maternity & neonatal care under the direct supervision of the medical doctor and nurse, ensures the neonatal resuscitation and early postpartum follow up of women. The LHV is responsible for providing routine nursing care for neonates including first treatment after birth, assistance of neonatal resuscitation and routine care in the unit.You will have diverse responsibilities encompassing Triage, Antenatal Care (ANC), and Postnatal Care (PNC), with a focus on upholding high medical standards and infection control.
Accountabilities
LHV may have varied accountabilities as per the assigned duties, Triage, ANC, PNC.
ANC:
- Providing ANC care and follow-up of patients, according to doctors’ prescriptions, protocols applied in service and to ensure the quality and continuity of care for the targeted population.
- Performing general examinations, monitoring, and recording vital signs.
- In case of emergency conduct normal deliveries under supervision of the nurse and/or MD.
- To assist MD/Nurses in the management of emergencies.
Postnatal care:
- Responsible for routine nursing care for neonates including first treatment after birth, assistance of neonatal resuscitation and routine care in the unit.
- Actively promote maternal and neonatal health, offer breastfeeding support, and provide guidance on routine vaccinations.
- Health promotion - postnatal care, assistance with breastfeeding and guidance on routine vaccinations.
- Documentation of antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum care in nursing notes
Other/Triage:
- In Triage take vital signs, assess patient status/medical history, and closely monitor a patients condition.
- Educate about COVID and pre-screen/prioritize patient that needs immediate medical attention
- Participating in the meeting for exchanging information on the state of the patients.
- Be responsible for materials/ equipment under your care/ usage.
MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities
- Ensuring patients’ right to privacy and confidentiality is respected
- Performs ANC, PNC, and Family planning consultations
- Perform minor maintenance for biomedical equipment used. Following the user manual and protocols and alert supervisor in case of malfunctioning.
IPC/ HYGEINE REQUIREMENTS:
- Ensure universal hygiene standards/precautions. Handwashing protocols/ use of PPEs and all other IPC principles MUST be duely observed.
- Ensure to pacticipate in the bi-weekly super cleaning organized by the IPC team. Collaborate with the IPC team to maintain the highest degree of IPC standards in the unit.
- Ensure proper waste segregation and waste management.
- Ensure daily cleaning of the equipment and also cleaning in-between patients as per IPC protocol.
- Perform essential sterilization of equipment as required/ according to protocol.
