Summary of Position:

  • Provide neonatal and pediatric care, including resuscitation when required.
  • Properly triage patients, prioritizing emergencies and referring acute cases immediately.
  • Observe, record, and report vital signs, promptly communicating changes or deterioration to doctors or supervisors.
  • Carry out anthropometric measurements (MUAC, weight, height, edema, and growth charts).
  • Safely calculate and administer medications (oral, IM, IV) as prescribed, following MSF protocols.
  • Insert and manage IV lines, administer IV fluids, collect blood specimens, and perform bedside diagnostic tests (RDTs, glucose, Hb, dipstick).
  • Identify and respond to medical emergencies, informing doctors and supervisors so patients are promptly referred to higher levels of care when necessary.
  • Identify and refer survivors of sexual and gender-based violence; ensure timely and appropriate use of PEP kits when indicated.
  • Deliver appropriate nutritional support (including therapeutic food calculation).
  • Monitor and maintain universal hygiene standards and IPC measures; participate in the health education of patients as needed.
  • Use and maintain medical equipment appropriately (oxygen therapy, suction, CPAP, incubators, drains, catheters, NG tubes).
  • Contribute to pharmacy and medical supply management, including stock control, storage conditions, monitoring expiry dates, and timely ordering of materials.
  • Assist doctors during consultations, daily rounds, and medical procedures.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of patient conditions and treatments, both verbal and written, including detailed handovers between shifts.
  • Provide technical guidance to Nurse Care Providers to ensure adherence to protocols.
  • Attend required trainings and contribute to staff capacity-building when requested.
  • Obtain explicit consent before all examinations, treatments, or procedures, providing clear explanations to patients and families so they can make informed decisions.
  • Respect patient confidentiality at all times, ensuring that medical information is shared only with authorized staff directly involved in care.
  • Refrain from accepting gifts or money from patients or families.
  • Ensure personal limits of competence are respected, seeking guidance when necessary.
  • Report any issues that may affect patient care, security, or MSF activities to the Project Management Team immediately.
  • Treat patients and their attendants with dignity, respect, and compassion at all times; communicate clearly, listen actively to concerns, and provide care in a non-judgmental manner.

Languages: Local language essential, preference will be given to Pashto speakers. Mission language Urdu and English desirable.

Note: Priority will be given to local applicants living within the District of Chaman or a 100km radius of the health center. If no suitable candidate can be identified, applicants from outside Chaman will be considered for Locally Mobile Staff (LMS / “Inpat”) contract and benefits. Local candidates are not eligible for LMS benefits.
